Sidebar & layout

The rail on the left holds your workspace, lists, views and favorites — hide it, peek it, resize it, or go full width.

The sidebar is the map of your workspace. From top to bottom:

  • Workspace row — the workspace’s name. Its menu holds Undo and Redo, Settings (,), Keyboard shortcuts, and Switch workspace with every workspace you belong to and Create workspace.
  • Search — type to search todos, lists and commands in place; the button at its end (or ⌘ K) opens the command palette with your query.
  • Create todo (C) opens the composer, and your favorites sit right under it.
  • Drafts and Questions rows appear while you have drafts or open questionnaires to answer, each with a count.
  • Lists — the Inbox and every list with its open count; the title’s arrow opens the lists page and + creates a list.
  • Views — every saved view you can see; + creates one.
  • Archive and Trash, then your account row in the footer, which opens the account menu. Drag a todo onto it to assign the todo to yourself.

Lists, views and favorites reorder by dragging. Right-click a list, view or favorite row for its actions. Lists and Views fold from their titles. The ↓/↑ buttons in the sidebar’s top-right corner — or ↑/↓, j/k on any page but a todo’s — step through every row.

Favorites

A list, a view or a single todo can be a favorite: pick Add to favorites from its menu, or drag its row up into the favorites. Drag a favorite out to remove it. Favorite view rows count the todos the view matches, like list rows do.

Hiding and peeking

⌘ B hides the sidebar; the toggle stays in the top-left corner with the sync indicator and a command palette button beside it. While hidden, resting the mouse on the toggle or on the left edge of the screen peeks the sidebar in over the page; it slides away when the pointer leaves. On a phone the sidebar is a sheet — swipe in from the left edge to open it.

Width and full width

Drag the sidebar’s edge to resize it between 224 and 448 px; double-click the edge to return to the default. The width is remembered on this device.

W toggles full width: list and view pages fill the window instead of a reading column, and every page’s header becomes a toolbar ruled off across the top. The board is always full width. The toggle also lives in the Display menu and the palette, and is remembered per device.
